Remembering Justice-Impacted Mothers this Mother’s Day
Dear Friends,
Every year on Mother’s Day, my children always find sweet ways to honor me; but the truth is, the greatest Mother’s Day gift they give me is time together. Yet I can’t stop thinking about the mothers who won’t be spending this Mother’s Day with their children because they are incarcerated in Texas prisons. Eighty percent of women incarcerated in Texas prisons have children under the age of 18. Every day they are behind bars is a day their children suffer.
That’s why this year, I asked my family to honor Mother’s Day with a donation to one of my favorite nonprofits, Lioness Justice Impacted Women’s Alliance. Will you join my family and honor your loved one with a gift to Lioness?

Women in Texas prisons have unique needs and complex histories, reporting high rates of childhood sexual abuse, poverty, mental illness, and substance use. And their needs don’t end at their release. When a woman leaves prison, she typically receives little more than a bus ticket, leaving her without an ID, access to medical care, or support for groceries.
Through Texas Defender Service’s Pro Bono Parole Program, we fight to amplify their voices and reunite them with their loved ones. But we couldn’t do this work with Lioness, our most critical partner.
Please join my family in supporting Lioness with a generous donation, and stand up for incarcerated moms and the families waiting to celebrate Mother’s Day with them. Your gift supports Lioness’s financial aid and navigation support for women and girls returning home, helping them rebuild their lives with their families.
I can’t think of a more deserving group of women to honor this Mother’s Day.

With gratitude,

Burke Butler
