As TDS is focused on the Texas capital punishment system, preference is given to Texas law students interested in criminal law or those individuals seeking future employment within Texas criminal law.  TDS internships are unpaid but offer the opportunity to work directly with senior staff on substantive issues.  TDS also works with M.S.W and paralegal candidates needing externship credits.

International internships are offered through our partnerships with Amicus and Reprieve.  TDS accepts a very limited number of international interns who are not affiliated with Amicus or Reprieve.  Please note, all international applicants must obtain an appropriate visa.

TDS hires a majority of our interns and externs through on-site recruitment at various law schools in Texas, although interested parties may apply year-round by submitting a current resume, a copy of your transcripts, and a cover letter identifying your preferred location (Houston or Austin) and reasons why you are interested in Texas criminal justice reform.  Application materials may be sent to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
